Reims-Gueux is a real slice of motorsport history, after sitting quietly decaying since closing in 1972 the remains of the pit stalls and grandstands became a source of pilgrimage to motorsport fans – And rightly so. From its establishment in 1926 the track hosted the French Grand Prix no fewer than 14 times with a winners roll in the World championship era that includes four World champions: Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Mike Hawthorn and Juan Manuel Fangio……
But Reims has a significant sportscar history too, the Reims 12 Hours was a classic in the 1960s and Jaguar, Ferrari and Ford shared the honours in the final glory years with Stirling Moss, Duncan Hamilton, Olivier Gendebien, Paul Frere, Graham Hill, Jo Bonnier, Pedro Rodriguez, Jo Schlesser and Guy Ligier were all winners here.
The DSC boys were blown away by the site when we visited en route to the 6 Hours of Imola with the efforts in recent years of Les Amis du Circuit de Gueux both apparent and very welcome – It’s recent re-introduction to the world of classic racing events is very welcome indeed – Long may it continue – Vive Reims Gueux!
